General Wellness
Post-event massage is done to help the horse relax and move any toxins out of their muscles after performing. The horse should not be hot when starting this massges, although they can be a little wet from being washed off. This session usually lasts about a half hour. Performing a post-event can help to keep the horse's muscles from tightening up after a hard day of performing.
This is my now 27 year old Thoroughbred gelding. He was 26 in this picture. It was taken after placing in a hunter pace. He fractured his hock 5 years ago, and with carefull recovery and massage, he is able to still perform and jump without the use of any bute at all. Massage has helped him stay comfortable and flexible, and extremely happy!
